Jason Mendelsohn is 50 years old. He’s been happily married for over 23 years to his wife Ronni, and they have three awesome kids, boy/girl twins that are 18 and a 12 year old son.
Jason’s cancer story began back in April 2014 while taking a
financial exam. He placed his hand on his neck to ponder a
question, and felt a bump.
He immediately called his Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) after passing
the exam, and was told that because he was not a smoker or drinker
that he could see the doctor over the next few weeks. Three
business days later Jason saw his doctor and he placed him on ten
days of antibiotics and steroids, and scheduled him for a needle
biopsy and CT Scan, in case the bump didn't go away.
After returning from a quick vacation to the Florida Keys & a
business trip to DC, Jason had the needle biopsy and CT scan. Three
days later, without any symptoms except the bump on his
neck, he received the scary diagnosis of squamous cell
carcinoma of the right tonsil, ultimately being diagnosed as stage
4 HPV related tonsil cancer. His doctors shared that they believe
he got the HPV virus in college over 25 years ago.
